SENIOR NIGHT CARER
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a reliable, compassionate Senior Night Carer to lead our night team. You’ll ensure residents are safe, comfortable, and well-supported — taking extra responsibility for medication administration, delegating tasks to staff, and liaising with external professionals throughout the night.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
🏥 Senior Leadership & Team Support
* Lead and support night care staff — delegate duties clearly and fairly
* Monitor standards, guide junior carers, and ensure all tasks are completed correctly
* Be the first point of contact for the home during the night
* Set a calm, professional tone; resolve any concerns promptly
💊 Medication Administration
* Administer medicines accurately following the 6 Rs and MAR chart records
* Check stock, report discrepancies, and ensure secure storage
* Promptly notify the manager/GP of missed doses, reactions, or concerns
* Support staff with medication queries and reinforce best practice
🤝 Professional Liaison & Communication
* Liaise directly with GPs, District Nurses, Ambulance, and Out-of-Hours services
* Coordinate urgent referrals, admissions, or transfers — keep records clear
* Update the Registered Manager / On-Call Manager immediately on all serious matters
* Handover fully to day staff — highlight changes, concerns, and follow-up actions
🧡 Resident Care & Safety
* Provide person-centred care: personal support, comfort, reassurance, and toileting
* Conduct timed, recorded night checks — respond promptly to all nurse calls
* Follow care plans, risk assessments, MCA/DoLS, and safeguarding procedures
* Monitor health changes — report and document observations, pain, or deterioration
* Maintain infection control, cleanliness, and home security
📋 Compliance & Records
* Complete accurate, legible, timely documentation
* Ensure all staff entries are signed and dated
* Follow CQC standards, GDPR, and all home policies
* Attend training, supervision, and team meetings
