MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Resident Care & Support
* Provide personal care including washing, dressing, toileting, continence care and assistance at night
* Assist residents who wake, need reassurance, or require help moving/turning in bed
* Monitor residents’ wellbeing — observe, report and record any changes in condition, behaviour or mood
* Support with fluid intake, medication prompts and comfort measures as per care plans
* Maintain residents’ dignity, privacy and independence at all times
* Follow individual care plans and risk assessments — adjust support as agreed
Safety & Environment
* Conduct regular, recorded night-time checks / patrols of all rooms and communal areas
* Respond promptly to nurse call bells — within agreed response times
* Ensure all doors, windows and fire exits are secure; follow fire safety procedures
* Report and record maintenance issues, hazards or equipment faults immediately
* Keep the home clean, tidy and safe — dispose of waste, handle laundry
* Follow all infection prevention and control procedures
Documentation & Communication
* Complete accurate, legible records: handover notes, daily logs, accident/incident forms
* Update care plans and report changes to the day team at handover
* Notify the on-call manager or GP urgently if a resident’s condition deteriorates
* Share relevant information with family members as directed
* Attend handover meetings and keep the team fully informed
Compliance & Standards
* Work in line with CQC Fundamental Standards, Care Act 2014, GDPR and our home policies
* Complete all mandatory training and keep skills up to date
* Promote equality, diversity and inclusion — treat everyone with respect
* Maintain confidentiality at all times
* Follow safeguarding procedures — recognise and report concerns promptly

EssentialDesirableExperience in care or personal caring role Care Certificate completed Reliable — able to work night shifts consistentlyPrevious night care experienceKind, patient and empathetic natureNVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social CareGood communication — spoken & written English Dementia awareness trainingPhysically fit — able to stand, walk, bend and assist with mobility Manual handling / moving & handling certificateTrustworthy and honest — will undergo DBS check Knowledge of MCA / DoLS Able to work independently and stay alert at night Own transport / local area knowledgeUnderstanding of confidentiality and professionalism Experience in a care home setting
⏰ SHIFT PATTERN
* Typical hours: 7:00pm – 7:00am
* Days: [e.g. 3 nights per week, including alternate weekends]
* 1 hour unpaid breaks
