About the Business
A fantastic opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, growing logistics group based in Hereford as an Assistant Accountant, offering a salary of £34,000 – £38,000 per annum. You'll be the go-to finance person across several companies within the group, taking real ownership of the day-to-day accounting and playing a key part in the monthly management accounts. Working closely with a supportive Group Finance Manager, you'll have genuine scope to make your mark as the business continues to grow.
Main Duties:
As an Assistant Accountant, your main duties include:
* Preparing the month-end balance sheet reconciliations, covering accruals, prepayments, deferred income and stock
* Capturing and coding supplier invoices and card receipts through receipt-scanning software, checking the VAT treatment on each one
* Reconciling supplier statements for each group company, making sure any differences are picked up and cleared quickly
* Handling the full day-to-day transactional workload across every company in the group, keeping the ledgers accurate and up to date
* Producing customer invoices from sales system reports, alongside recharge invoices between the group companies
* Looking after the finance inboxes for a number of the companies, ensuring nothing is missed and queries are actioned promptly
* Reconciling the group's bank accounts, intercompany balances and balance sheet codes, ensuring everything ties up across the group
* Reviewing VAT returns ahead of submission, making sure the figures are complete and correct
* Supporting the production of accurate, on-time monthly management accounts and the wider reporting that helps the group grow and improve
* Running the monthly subcontractor timesheet and invoicing cycle from start to finish
* Pulling together supplier payment runs twice a month, ready for sign-off
* Overseeing company credit cards and staff expense claims, ensuring spend is properly controlled and recorded
* Dealing with queries from customers, suppliers and colleagues in a timely, helpful way
* Spotting opportunities to streamline processes and improve how the finance function works
* Supporting the Group Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks and projects as they come up

The role is based in Hereford, with the potential for flexible hours and some home working for the right candidate. What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
* At least two years' experience in a finance role is essential
* AAT Level 2 or an equivalent qualification is essential
* A solid grounding in double-entry bookkeeping, sales and purchase ledgers and basic costing
* Practical experience across profit and loss as well as balance sheet accounting
* Strong Excel skills and confidence using finance systems
* Organised and self-motivated, able to juggle several priorities with a sharp eye for detail
* A team player who communicates comfortably with people at every level
* Experience of Xero or SAP, CIS, VAT and stock accounting is desirable but not essential
