SEN & SEMH Outreach Tutor - South London
Location: South London
Job Type: Part Time, Outreach Tuition
Hours: 1 to 20 hours per week, depending on placement
Pay: from £30p/h plus
About the Role
Reeson Education is looking for compassionate, experienced and enthusiastic tutors to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across South London.
Through our Outreach provision, we work closely with Local Authorities to provide personalised, one-to-one education for learners who may be unable to attend mainstream school or require a more individualised approach to learning.
We are particularly interested in hearing from tutors who have experience supporting children and young people with complex needs, including autism, communication difficulties, emotional regulation challenges and barriers to engagement.
Experience using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices or communication strategies would be highly desirable, although this is not essential.
Placements range from 1 to 20 hours per week, with tuition schedules determined by the needs of the young person and their family. We aim to match tutors with suitable opportunities based on their experience, location and availability.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver individualised one-to-one tuition tailored to each learner's needs, abilities and interests.
Support learners with SEN, SEMH, autism, communication difficulties and complex learning needs.
Use creative and engaging teaching approaches to encourage participation and build confidence.
Establish positive, trusting relationships with children and young people who may have experienced difficulties accessing education.
Adapt learning activities to suit individual communication styles, sensory needs and levels of engagement.
Support the development of academic, social and independence skills where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with families, Local Authorities and other professionals involved in the learner's education.
Complete regular feedback and progress reports.
Requirements
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs is essential.
Experience delivering one-to-one tuition, specialist education or alternative provision.
A good understanding of autism, emotional regulation and personalised learning approaches.
Ability to adapt communication and teaching methods to meet individual needs.
A calm, patient, empathetic and reliable approach.
Experience with AAC devices, PECS, Makaton or other communication support strategies is desirable but not essential.
QTS, teaching qualifications or relevant SEN experience would be advantageous.
Willingness to travel to placements across South London.
Enhanced DBS clearance, or willingness to obtain one, alongside relevant safeguarding checks.
Why Work with Reeson Outreach?
