Role Overview
Prospero Teaching is recruiting an experienced and compassionate SEN Tutor to deliver 1:1 tuition to children and young people in St Helens from January 2026. This role is ideal for tutors who are confident supporting learners with additional needs and who want to make a meaningful, long-term impact.
Location & Contract Details
Location: St Helens pupils homes or community-based settings
Start date: January 2026
Pay rate: From £30 per hour (dependent on experience)
Contract type: Part-time / Contract
Hours: Flexible
About the Students
You will be supporting learners with a range of Special Educational Needs, including:
Autism
ADHD
SEMH
Learning difficulties
Many students may be disengaged from mainstream education or working below age-related expectations, requiring a personalised and therapeutic approach to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver tailored 1:1 tuition in core subjects (English, Maths, or Functional Skills)
Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and emotional needs
Build positive, consistent relationships to support engagement and confidence
Provide structure, routine, and encouragement
Monitor progress and provide feedback to parents, carers, and professionals
Plan and deliver structured, student-centred sessions
Essential Requirements
Experience working with children or young people with SEN
Experience delivering 1:1 tuition or targeted interventions
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS on the Child Barred List (or willingness to apply)
Ability to work independently and manage a flexible timetable
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
QTS, PGCE, EYFS, or equivalent
Experience supporting Autism, ADHD, or SEMH
Outreach or alternative provision experience
