SEN Teaching Assistant – Do you have childcare experience?

Location: Croydon & Surrounding Areas
Pay: £90 – £120 per day PAYE
Roles: Full-Time, Part-Time & Flexible Opportunities

Have experience with children but never worked in a school?

You don't need to have "Teaching Assistant" on your CV to have the skills needed to be a great one.

Maybe you've spent a summer working at a children's camp.

Perhaps you've worked as a babysitter, nanny or au pair.

You might have coached a children's sports team, volunteered with a youth group or supported children through Scouts, Guides or another organisation.

You may even have gained valuable experience through regularly supporting or caring for a younger sibling or family member with additional needs.

If you're patient, reliable and naturally good at building relationships with children, we'd like to hear from you.

Teaching Personnel are looking for people interested in working as SEN Teaching Assistants within primary and specialist schools across Croydon and surrounding areas.

What does an SEN Teaching Assistant actually do?

You'll work alongside teachers and other school staff to help children who may need some additional support during their school day.

Depending on the child and setting, you could be:

Providing 1:1 support to a pupil

Helping children engage with classroom activities

Supporting communication and interaction

Encouraging independence and confidence

Helping pupils manage routines and transitions

Supporting children with autism, ADHD, communication needs or other additional needs

Helping with reading, writing and numeracy

Supporting children's social and emotional development

Working with small groups

Celebrating the small wins that can make a big difference to a child's day

You won't be expected to walk into a school knowing everything.

We're looking for people with the right attitude and transferable experience who are willing to learn.

Your experience might be more relevant than you think

We're particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience through:

Babysitting

Nannying or au pairing

Summer camps and holiday clubs

Sports coaching

Scouts, Guides or youth groups

Children's clubs and activities

Nursery or childcare work

Youth work

Tutoring or mentoring

Volunteering with children

Supporting children with additional needs

Regular caring responsibilities for younger siblings or family members

Your experience doesn't necessarily need to have come from paid employment or a school.

If you've developed patience, communication skills, resilience and an understanding of how to build trust with children, we'd be interested in having a conversation.

Who could this suit?

This could be a great opportunity if you're:

Looking to start a career working with children

Considering teaching, psychology, SEN or education

A graduate looking to gain practical experience

A university student looking for work around your studies

Returning to work after a career break

Coming from childcare, care, youth work or another people-focused role

Looking to turn informal experience with children into professional school experience

What are we looking for?

More than anything, we're looking for people who are:

Patient. Reliable. Calm. Encouraging. Willing to learn.

Working with children with additional needs can sometimes be challenging, so you'll need to be able to remain positive, adapt your approach and understand that every child is different.

You don't need years of school experience.

You do need a genuine interest in supporting children and helping them make progress.

What can Teaching Personnel offer?

£90 – £120 per day, depending on the role and experience

PAYE – no umbrella companies

Full-time and part-time opportunities

Flexible supply work

Long-term SEN support roles

Mainstream and specialist school opportunities

Experience supporting a range of additional needs

Access to CPD and training

The chance to build genuine school-based experience

Support from a dedicated Primary Education consultant

Never considered working in a school before?

That's completely fine.

Some people know from the start that they want to work in education. Others discover it after working at a summer camp, coaching a football team, looking after children or supporting someone within their own family.

The skills you've picked up outside of a classroom could be exactly what a child needs inside one.

If you have experience working with or supporting children and you're interested in seeing where those skills could take you, apply today.

We'll have a conversation about your experience, what you're looking for and the SEN Teaching Assistant opportunities we currently have available.
