Quantum Scholars are looking for caring, reliable and experienced Secondary English and Maths Tutors to support secondary-aged children and young people in and around Bridgwater, Somerset.

This is an in-person tuition role. Tuition will take place in the young person's home and/or a suitable community setting, depending on the individual referral. Please note that this is not online work, so applicants must be able to travel to Bridgwater and the surrounding areas.

We work with pupils who may be educated other than at school, awaiting a suitable placement, or in need of additional personalised support. Tuition is usually delivered on a 1:1 basis and is tailored to the needs, ability and circumstances of each young person.

We are particularly interested in tutors who can support English and/or Maths and who can provide a calm, flexible and young person-centred approach. The successful tutor will be able to build positive relationships, adapt learning to meet individual needs, and deliver engaging sessions that support confidence, progress and re-engagement with education.

The role may involve:

Providing 1:1 in-person tuition for secondary-aged pupils in and around Bridgwater

Delivering English and/or Maths support tailored to the pupil's needs

Travelling to pupils' homes and/or suitable community settings

Planning and delivering personalised learning activities

Supporting core literacy, numeracy, subject knowledge and confidence

Helping pupils re-engage with education at a pace that is right for them

Adapting sessions to suit each young person's needs, ability and emotional readiness

Supporting pupils who may have SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, EBSA, or gaps in education

Working professionally with parents/carers and relevant professionals

Keeping brief records of session content, attendance, engagement and progress

Essential requirements:

Experience working with secondary-aged pupils

Strong subject knowledge in English and/or Maths

A patient, encouraging and flexible approach

The ability to plan engaging, personalised learning sessions

Strong communication and organisational skills

A clear commitment to safeguarding and supporting positive outcomes for young people

The ability to travel to in-person tuition sessions in and around Bridgwater

The legal right to work in the UK

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider applicants who do not meet this requirement.

Please also note that this is not an online tutoring role. Applicants must be available for in-person tuition in Bridgwater and the surrounding areas.

Qualified Teacher Status would be highly desirable, particularly for referrals requiring a qualified teacher. We would also welcome applications from experienced tutors, instructors or education professionals with strong English and/or Maths subject knowledge and relevant experience.

Applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, an enhanced DBS certificate and be able to provide suitable references.

This is a rewarding opportunity to provide personalised, face-to-face English and Maths support to young people who need a flexible, understanding and engaging approach to learning.
