MET Recruitment are currently recruiting for a school caretaker to join a welcoming school environment on a temp basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a reliable, practical, and hands on individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and well-presented school environment.
Job responsibilities (not limited to):
Opening and locking the school premises
Setting and disarming security alarms
Carrying out daily security and safety checks
Checking doors, windows, gates and access points
General upkeep and maintenance of the school buildings
Carrying out minor repairs and basic DIY
Changing light bulbs and replacing basic fixtures
Checking heating, lighting and water systems
Reporting faults and maintenance issues
Keeping corridors, classrooms and communal areas safe and tidy
Maintaining school grounds, playgrounds and outdoor areas
Basic gardening and grounds maintenance
Litter picking and emptying outdoor bins
Setting up and clearing away rooms for meetings, events and activities
Moving furniture, equipment and deliveries around the school
Receiving and assisting with deliveries
Liaising with contractors and supervising site visitors
Ensuring contractors sign in and follow site procedures
Monitoring the condition of school facilities
Supporting health and safety checks
Checking fire doors, fire exits and emergency routes are clear
Assisting with fire drills and emergency procedures
Checking first aid and safety equipment where required
Dealing with minor emergencies and reporting incidents
Keeping records of maintenance, inspections and issues
Ensuring the site is clean, secure and ready for pupils and staff
Supporting the school during adverse weather, such as snow or icy conditions
Reporting any safeguarding or security concerns to the appropriate member of staff
Working with the school leadership team to ensure the premises remain safe and operational
Carrying out any other reasonable duties required by the school
Job role requirements:
Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, facilities or similar role is essential.
Practical and hands-on approach with the ability to carry out general maintenance and minor repairs.
Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
Able to work independently and use initiative.
Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining a safe and well-presented school environment.
Good communication skills and a professional manner when dealing with staff, pupils, visitors and contractors.
Able to carry out physical tasks, including moving furniture and equipment when required.
Flexible and willing to support the school with a range of day-to-day site duties.
A valid DBS is mandatory for this position. Your DBS must have been issued within the last 3 years.
