Location: NG8 - Nottingham
Hours: Full-time, 174 hours per month
Sleep-in shifts: 23:00–07:00 on a 3‑week rolling rota

Role Overview

As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people living within residential care settings. You will help create a warm, stable, and nurturing home environment while ensuring their safety, emotional well‑being, and developmental progress.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will build positive relationships, implement individual care plans, and support children through daily routines, activities, and life‑skills development.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide day‑to‑day care and emotional support to children and young people in a residential setting.

* Build trusting, positive relationships that promote security and belonging.

* Implement personalised care plans and work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.

* Create a stimulating and nurturing environment through structured activities, outings, and recreational opportunities.

* Support daily routines including meals, personal care, education, and leisure.

* Record observations, incidents, and progress accurately and contribute to assessments.

* Promote safeguarding, conduct risk assessments, and maintain a safe environment.

* Encourage the development of social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.

* Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development.

* Attend mandatory training to enhance skills and knowledge in residential childcare.

Person Specification

Essential:

* Working towards or willing to complete QCF Level 3 within the regulatory 2‑year timeframe.

* Experience supporting children or young people (residential or childcare setting preferred).

* Understanding of child development, attachment, and trauma‑informed practice.

* Ability to engage with children from diverse backgrounds with empathy and resilience.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

* Basic knowledge of safeguarding legislation and residential childcare regulations.

* Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

* Strong organisational and time‑management skills.

Desirable:

* QCF Level 3 qualification already achieved.

* Full UK driving licence (may be required for some roles).
