We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced nursery cook to join our friendly early years setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated nursery cook who enjoys working independently and takes pride in preparing nutritious, balanced meals for young children in a safe and caring environment.
The position is Monday to Friday, 8:00am–2:00pm, all year round, offering a consistent and stable schedule that supports a healthy work-life balance. The role is paid at £13.00 per hour and involves lone working, so confidence, organisation, and self-motivation are essential qualities for the successful nursery cook.
As our nursery cook, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving a variety of meals throughout the day. This includes breakfast, morning snacks, lunch, afternoon snacks, and tea. You will ensure all meals meet nutritional guidelines suitable for young children, taking into account any dietary requirements, allergies, or cultural preferences.
In addition to food preparation, the nursery cook will oversee the general upkeep of the kitchen. This includes maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, completing daily cleaning routines, and ensuring all food storage areas are organised and compliant with food safety regulations. You will also be responsible for carrying out and maintaining up-to-date risk assessments, ensuring the kitchen remains a safe working environment at all times.
The ideal nursery cook will have previous experience in a similar role, a good understanding of food hygiene standards, and a genuine passion for providing healthy meals for children. A food hygiene certificate is preferred, and knowledge of allergen management is highly desirable.
This role would suit someone who is proactive, dependable, and able to work efficiently on their own initiative. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are key, as well as the ability to manage time effectively in a busy kitchen environment.
If you are a committed and enthusiastic nursery cook looking for a rewarding role where you can make a positive impact on children’s daily wellbeing, we would love to hear from you
