Play a key role behind the scenes keeping trains clean, safe, and ready for service across the North!
The Role and About You
This is a hands-on, physically active night shift role where you will be responsible for ensuring trains are cleaned to a high standard and ready for passengers the following day. Working at Newton Heath Depot, you will carry out deep and heavy cleaning of train interiors, including seating areas, floors, and toilets, using specialist cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuums, and cleaning solutions.
The role requires attention to detail, consistency, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a busy depot environment. You will be contributing directly to passenger experience by ensuring trains are presented in a clean, safe, and comfortable condition.
You may be working either a Tuesday to Friday shift from 20:00pm to 04:45am, focused on full cleans, or a rolling roster pattern of 5 days on and 4 days off, followed by 4 days on and 5 days off, with shifts running from 20:45pm to 05:30am across a 13-week cycle. Flexibility is important, as is the ability to work night shifts consistently.
This role would suit someone with previous experience in cleaning environments such as rail, buses, aircraft, industrial settings, or housekeeping, although full training will be provided. If you are reliable, hard-working, and comfortable carrying out manual duties throughout your shift, this role is for you. Candidates must also be able to pass a medical assessment and drug and alcohol screening in line with railway standards.
