Role Overview

The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of mechanical equipment and systems. This includes planned preventive maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, fault finding, and continuous improvement initiatives to minimise downtime and optimise performance.

πŸ”§ Key Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical equipment and machinery
Diagnose faults and carry out effective corrective actions
Support breakdown response to minimise production or operational downtime
Implement and adhere to preventive maintenance schedules
Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and manuals
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations
Collaborate with production, operations, and engineering teams
Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports (CMMS systems where applicable)
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction
Assist in installation, commissioning, and upgrading of new equipment

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, hydraulics, and pneumatics
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Good communication and teamwork skills
Familiarity with maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Understanding of health & safety standards and safe working practices

πŸŽ“ Qualifications & Experience

HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role (manufacturing, facilities, or industrial environment)
Apprenticeship in mechanical engineering (preferred)
Experience with fault finding and root cause analysis

Multi-skilled (basic electrical knowledge)
Experience with PLC-controlled equipment (basic understanding)
Welding or fabrication skills
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies
