Are you an experienced Management Accountant who wants genuine ownership - not just another month-end routine?
This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-visibility, hands-on role at the commercial heart of a long-established, privately owned business in Southampton. With a finance transformation already underway, you'll have real influence over how the function operates - not just now, but for years to come.
What will the Management Accountant role involve?
As Management Accountant, you'll own the full month-end cycle for a key division and act as the on-site finance lead, working directly alongside the Head of Finance. This isn't a back-office position - you'll be a trusted voice in operational and strategic conversations, and a driving force behind process improvement.
Businesses going through finance centralisation and systems change need experienced professionals who've seen it before and know how to make it work. That's exactly who this role is built for.
What you'll be responsible for:
Full end-to-end management accounts: P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow for a key division
All core reconciliations - bank, balance sheet, and intercompany - with a focus on accuracy and control
Margin analysis, variance analysis, and KPI reporting with meaningful commentary for senior stakeholders
Leading the centralisation of finance activity from regional sites into the Southampton head office - standardising processes and improving consistency across the business
Reviewing and strengthening manual finance processes ahead of a future system implementation
Budgeting, forecasting, and year-end audit support
Acting as the go-to finance partner for non-finance colleagues across the business
Supporting and mentoring junior team members as required
Suitable Candidate for the Management Accountant vacancy:
This role suits a seasoned Management Accountant - someone who has built their career in operationally driven environments and is energised by complexity, not intimidated by it.
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience with a strong, proven track record in management accounting
Demonstrable experience of producing end-to-end management accounts including full balance sheet ownership
Comfortable operating in manual or legacy finance environments - you know how to get results with imperfect systems while building towards better ones
Self-sufficient and deadline-driven - you don't need close supervision to deliver
A clear communicator who can translate numbers into insight for non-finance audiences
Someone who takes pride in doing the detail right, while keeping the bigger picture in view
Studies consistently show that finance professionals in transformation-phase businesses report significantly higher job satisfaction when given genuine autonomy and visible impact. This role offers both.
