Landfill Gas Engineer

Bristol

£-Attractive salary plus company vehicle and benefits package

Our client is one of the UK’s leading providers of waste management services. The company is also a significant generator of renewable energy, primarily based on the extraction of gas from 7 of their landfill sites. These sites currently produce approximately 150 GWh of electricity each year. You’ll play a key role in maintaining the gas and power infrastructure that makes this possible.

Are you an experienced Landfill Gas Engineer looking for a role with real autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to work across multiple dynamic sites?

We are seeking a skilled, qualified Landfill Gas Engineer to join the company’s Bristol operations, supporting sites across the South West and wider UK portfolio. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant regional travel, including regular trips to Swansea and occasional requirements to support the company’s Kent operations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Ensure legislative and environmental compliance across multiple landfill and renewable energy sites.

* Carry out daily operational monitoring, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on gas engines, gas fields, and associated plant.

* Respond to breakdowns and complete planned maintenance to minimise downtime.

* Undertake generator commissioning, exchange, and configuration activities.

* Maintain and inspect mechanical, electrical, and LV electrical equipment.

* Support gas field optimisation to ensure safe gas control and sustainable fuel quality.

* Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota (currently 1 in 7 weekends).

* Conduct environmental tasks such as air emissions monitoring and spill response.

* Manage your own travel, workload, and operational costs effectively.

* Collaborate with internal specialists to resolve complex engineering challenges.

Candidate Requirements:

* Possess at least 2 years relevant experience in landfill gas, gas engines, CHP, power generation, utilities, or similar heavy-process environments.

* Understand environmental legislation and operational compliance requirements.

* Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently across multiple remote sites.

* Confident with fault-finding and problem-solving in the field.

* Intermediate competence with Microsoft Office.

* Hold a mechanical or electrical engineering qualification.

* Comfortable with frequent travel and managing work across multiple locations.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.
