About the Role
The Elfrida Society is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Inclusive Sports Assistant to support our award-winning Inclusive Sports Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to support young people and adults aged 16+ with learning disabilities and autism to take part in fun, inclusive sports and community activities, working alongside our Sports Project Manager, coaches, and volunteers, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can build confidence, develop friendships, and improve their health and wellbeing.
Our current programme includes activities such as Elfrida FC football training, tennis, basketball, fitness sessions, and cricket delivered across locations including Islington, Muswell Hill and Tottenham also the occasional community events across North London.
This role is ideal for someone with an interest in disability sport, community engagement, health and wellbeing, or sports coaching. There may also be opportunities for training and professional development, including coaching qualifications, for the right candidate
Main Responsibilities
You will:
Support coaches to deliver safe, fun, inclusive and engaging sports sessions across North London.
Support outreach, promotion and capacity-building activities to increase participation in school, college and organisations.
Encourage and support people with learning disabilities and autism to participate with a personal centred approach.
Provide one-to-one or small group support where needed.
Support with setting up equipment and ensuring sessions run smoothly across different venues.
Welcome participants, carers and families.
Keep attendance registers and participant records up to date.
Support referrals, database updates and general administration.
Follow safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies.
Work closely with the Sports Project Manager and wider team.
Person Specification
We're looking for someone who is:
Essential
Friendly, positive and reliable.
Passionate about inclusion and supporting disabled people.
A strong Interested in sport, health and community activities.
A good communicator with strong people skills.
Organised and able to work as part of a team.
Able to travel to different venues across North London.
A flexible approach to working hours, including some evenings or weekends if required.
Desirable
Experience supporting disabled people, community groups or sports activities.
A sports coaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
We value attitude, commitment and willingness to learn just as much as previous experience.
Hours and Pay
8 hours per week – 6 months contract with possibility of extension depending on funding
Regular Working Pattern:
Monday
Fitness session
2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
Wednesday
Tennis session
10.30 am – 12.30 pm
Thursday
Basketball session
3.30 pm – 5.30 pm
Each shift includes time to set up before the session and pack away afterwards.
Administration
Approximately 2 hours per week (usually Wednesday afternoon, but flexible) supporting:
participant records
referrals
attendance registers
database updates
promotion of activities
Additional hours may occasionally be available and will be paid at the same hourly rate, subject to prior approval.
