Head of Group Purchasing (Construction)
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 DOE + Car Allowance + Benefits

About the Role
An excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to lead group-wide purchasing activities across a well-established construction and civil engineering business. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will oversee procurement strategy, supplier management, cost control and purchasing operations across multiple departments.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all procurement and purchasing activities across the group.
* Manage supplier relationships, negotiations and performance reviews.
* Source materials, goods and services to support operational requirements.
* Work with pre-construction teams on tenders and value engineering initiatives.
* Manage enquiries, quotation evaluations and order placement.
* Coordinate deliveries with site teams to meet project programmes.
* Monitor supply chain risks, market trends and material availability.
* Produce procurement reports and updates for senior management.
* Manage and develop purchasing team members.
* Maintain procurement records, cost comparisons and purchasing data.
* Resolve supplier and invoice-related queries.
* Drive continuous improvement across procurement processes and systems.
Requirements
* Previous purchasing/procurement experience within construction.
* Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
* Experience managing suppliers and subcontractor supply chains.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook.
* Strong analytical, numerical and organisational skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
* Ability to prioritise workloads and work to deadlines.
* Proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
* Degree qualification or procurement qualification desirable.
