Are you a Psychology Graduate eager to apply your knowledge of child development and build a rewarding career in education? Whether you aspire to become an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, or Primary Teacher, working as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) in a mainstream primary school’s SEND provision is the perfect foundation to develop your skills and gain invaluable, hands-on experience.

We are currently recruiting for a passionate and proactive Psychology Graduate to join a vibrant, welcoming primary school in Middleton (Rochdale). This long-term opportunity begins in Sept 2026 and offers the chance to make a genuine impact on the early educational journeys of young children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Your Role as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

As a primary LSA, you will provide critical early-years or key stage support to both pupils and teaching staff. Your responsibilities will include:

* Tailored Primary Support: Assisting in the delivery of personalised phonics, reading, and numeracy, working with primary-aged pupils individually or in small groups.

* Engaging Sensory & Play Work: Supporting younger pupils in sensory activities and structured play that promote social engagement, communication, and motor skill development.

* Resource Preparation: Helping to prepare visual aids, workstations, and creative materials that enhance the primary classroom learning experience.

* Feedback and Communication: Providing insightful feedback to class teachers and parents about a child’s daily progress, milestones, and engagement.

* Specialist Support: Working closely with pupils who have Autism (ASD), speech and language delays, and other complex needs, fostering their academic, social, and emotional growth.

What Makes a Great Psychology Graduate LSA?

Successful primary LSAs bring a combination of enthusiasm, compassion, and adaptability to their role. Key attributes include:

* Empathy and Patience: A nurturing, caring approach with the ability to connect with young children and support their individual emotional needs.

* Flexibility: A willingness to adapt your support style to suit different primary learning styles, attention spans, and behaviours.

* Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with young pupils, school staff, and families.

* Resilience: The ability to remain calm, patient, and positive, even in challenging situations.

* Commitment to Development: A genuine passion for primary education, SEND support, and a desire to make a difference at the start of a child’s school life.
