Want to get real classroom experience before jumping into teacher training? Thinking about becoming a Teacher?

We’re working with a welcoming secondary school in Northumberland, right on the edge of Newcastle, looking for graduates to join their team as Cover Supervisors on an ad hoc basis.

It’s a brilliant way to test the waters in education, build confidence in the classroom, and see what school life is really like, without the full responsibility of teaching straight away.

And the best bit? You won’t be thrown in at the deep end. You’ll have the chance to shadow experienced Cover Supervisors for a day first, so you can see how things run before taking the lead yourself.

What does a Cover Supervisor do?

Think of yourself as the calm, confident presence in the room when a teacher is away.

Deliver pre-set lessons across different subjects

Keep students focused and on task

Manage classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment

Support pupils with the work left by their teacher

No planning required, just strong communication, organisation, and a bit of confidence.

Why this role is perfect for graduates

If you’re considering teacher training, educational psychology, youth work, or working with young people, this role gives you genuine classroom experience that universities and training providers love to see.

You’ll:

Build classroom confidence

Experience life in a secondary school

Decide if teaching is the right path for you

We’re looking for graduates who

Hold a degree in any subject

Are confident speaking in front of groups

Can build positive relationships with young people

Stay calm, organised, and adaptable
