A specialist ground engineering consultancy is looking to bring a Graduate Engineering Geologist into its Liverpool team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to get properly involved in ground investigation rather than spending their first few years behind a desk. You'll get exposure to site work, drilling, logging and reporting, while working alongside experienced engineers and geologists on projects across the North West.
The role
You'll be involved in projects from the early stages of a ground investigation through to reporting and interpretation. Your work will include:
Attending and supervising ground investigation sites
Working alongside drilling contractors
Logging soils and rock to recognised standards
Trial pitting, window sampling and cable percussion investigations
Taking soil and groundwater samples
Groundwater and gas monitoring
Preparing factual ground investigation reports
Assisting with interpretative reporting and ground models
Reviewing laboratory and in-situ testing results
Producing site records, logs and technical drawings
Supporting senior engineers and project managers
Liaising with contractors and clients on siteYou'll work across a mixture of residential, commercial, infrastructure and redevelopment projects, giving you a good grounding in different geological conditions and investigation techniques.
About you
You'll have a degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geoscience or a related subject and be looking to start your career in ground engineering.
We're looking for someone who is:
Genuinely interested in geology and how it influences engineering projects
Comfortable working outdoors and on active construction sites
Keen to get practical site experience
Organised and able to keep accurate records
Confident communicating with contractors and colleagues
Interested in developing their technical knowledge
Happy to travel to different sites across the North WestA full UK driving licence would be beneficial.
What makes the role interesting?
The aim is to give you proper exposure to ground investigation from the start. You'll spend time on site learning how investigations are actually carried out, before developing your reporting and interpretation skills back in the office.
As you gain experience, there's scope to take on more responsibility for investigations, develop your technical specialisms and work towards professional accreditation.
What's on offer?
£27,000 - £32,000 salary, depending on experience
Liverpool-based role
Varied ground investigation projects
Strong balance of site and office work
Practical training from experienced engineers and geologists
