Functional Skills Maths Tutor - Southport
Location: Southport, Merseyside
Hours: 5-15 hours per week
Start Date: October 2026

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Maths Tutor to support learners across Southport through individualised tuition. The role focuses on improving numeracy, developing practical mathematical skills and helping learners work towards appropriate qualifications.
The Role:
Deliver 1:1 Functional Skills Maths sessions tailored to learner needs.
Support Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 learners, where appropriate.
Teach number, calculations, measurement and practical problem-solving.
Identify gaps in understanding and establish achievable learning targets.
Adapt teaching methods to suit different abilities and learning needs.
Record progress and provide feedback on outcomes.
Experience, Training and Qualifications:
QTS, PGCE or a relevant teaching or tutoring qualification is desirable.
Strong mathematical knowledge and numeracy skills.
Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths or supporting numeracy development.
Experience working with young people who need additional educational support is advantageous.
A flexible, patient and engaging approach.
To be eligible for this role, the tutor must:
Hold the right to work in the UK.
Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.
Provide two professional references, including child-related references.
