I am currently representing Hackney Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience
We are looking for a Customer Service Officer – Council Tax this role will be: Hybrid E8 1DY 2 days office based if required
The right candidate will:
* Maintain the Council Tax Register: Accurately update and maintain property records, liable parties, exemptions, discounts, and reliefs on the Council Tax database.
* Issue Bills and Notifications: Calculate, generate, and issue accurate Council Tax bills, annual notifications, and revised demands in accordance with statutory requirements.
* Process Changes in Circumstances: Process notifications of house moves, new occupants, tenancy changes, and changes in property status (e.g., demolitions, new builds).
* Apply Discounts and Exemptions: Review and process applications for various discounts (e.g., single person discount), exemptions (e.g., student halls, properties occupied solely by students), and reliefs (e.g., severe mental impairment).
* Respond to Enquiries: Handle complex enquiries from the public,mainly by phone but also face to face regarding Council Tax liability, payments, discounts, and enforcement action.
We require the following:
* Knowledge of Council Tax legislation and enforcement procedures.
* Previous Customer Service Experience
