We have an opportunity for a driven and knowledgeable Planner to join a highly successful planning team within a leading multi‑disciplinary main contractor based in Northampton.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to take ownership of programmes across both pre‑construction and live project delivery, working closely with project teams to ensure robust, realistic, and well‑communicated schedules.
Our client delivers major construction projects nationally, ranging from £10m to £60m+, across sectors including industrial, retail, residential, office, fit‑out, and infrastructure.
You will join an established planning department of 33 professionals, benefiting from a collaborative environment, strong technical support, and exposure to a wide variety of schemes.
The Role – Planner
* Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project programmes for both tender and live schemes.
* Work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers to integrate practical construction knowledge into accurate and achievable schedules.
* Lead the preparation of tender programmes, logistics plans, build sequences, and supporting graphics, clearly identifying risks, opportunities, and key project constraints.
* Attend and contribute to tender interviews, client meetings, and progress reviews, confidently presenting programme strategies and updates.
* Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, update programmes, and provide clear reporting for internal stakeholders and clients.
* Assess the impact of variations, delays, and design changes, advising project teams on mitigation strategies and revised programme outcomes.
* Balance office-based work in Northampton with site visits and occasional home working.
The Right Person – Planner
* Experience in a planning role within a main contractor environment, ideally on new build general contracting projects (non‑housing).
* Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and project delivery processes.
* Confident communicator, able to collaborate effectively with site teams, senior management, and clients.
* Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
* Proficient with planning software and general IT systems.
* Industry‑related qualification (ONC/HNC, BEng, NVQ) or equivalent practical experience.
* Based within a reasonable commute of Northampton.
