ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an in-house Management Accountant to join our construction group and take ownership of the day-to-day finance function across the group. This is a hands-on role based within the business. You will be responsible for processing invoices, managing supplier payments, running payroll, filing VAT and CIS returns, chasing outstanding invoices, and maintaining accurate accounting records across multiple group companies.
You will be working closely with the commercial and operational teams, so prior experience within construction or a similar contracting environment is essential. This is not a purely strategic or advisory role, it is a delivery role. You will be expected to be directly involved in receiving, processing, filing and posting all financial transactions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchase Ledger & Supplier Payments
Receive, log and process all supplier invoices
Upload invoices to ApprovalMax and manage the approval workflow
Post all invoices into Xero
Maintain accurate supplier ledgers
Prepare weekly and monthly payment runs
Reconcile supplier statements
Resolve invoice and payment queries
Sales Ledger
Raise sales invoices where required
Track outstanding invoices
Chase overdue debtors
Maintain clean customer ledgers
Payroll & Expenses
Run weekly and monthly payroll
Process employee expenses
Maintain PAYE records
Submit RTI submissions to HMRC
VAT & CIS
Prepare and submit VAT returns
Manage CIS registrations, deductions and submissions
Process CIS payments and statements
Reconcile CIS ledgers
Bank & Control Account
Daily and weekly bank reconciliations
Maintain control accounts (VAT, PAYE, CIS, DLA etc.)
Monitor cashflow and payment commitments
Month-End & Management Accounts
Prepare monthly management accounts
Maintain accurate P&L and balance sheet
Assist directors with cashflow reporting
Support project cost reporting alongside the commercial team
Year-End AccountsPrepare year-end accounts for group companies
Liaise with external accountants where required
Maintain full audit trail and supporting documentation

Systems
Xero – core accounting system
ApprovalMax – invoice approvals (experience beneficial)
Excel / Google Sheets for reporting and reconciliations

WORKING ARRANGEMENT
This is a full-time, office-based role based at our London office. Due to the hands-on nature of the position and the requirement to work closely with the commercial, operational and leadership teams, the successful candidate is expected to be present in the office on a full-time basis during the probation period. Following successful completion of the six-month probation period, alternative working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate, subject to performance and business requirements.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Previous experience as a Management Accountant or Company Accountant
Background in construction, contracting, engineering or similar project-based business
Strong understanding of: VAT (construction experience preferred), CIS. Payroll & PAYE
Supplier payment processes
Confident using Xero
Comfortable working with multiple companies in a group structure Used to working in a fast-moving operational environment

Desirable (But Not Essential)
Experience preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims

Experience maintaining registers of members and preparing share transfer documentation
