Commercial Manager (Construction / Contracts) – Battery Storage & Renewables

Location: London (4 days in office) + occasional UK site travel

Salary: Up to £100,000 + package

Type: Permanent, full-time | Reporting to: Head of Construction

My clients team is expanding and looking for a Commercial Manager to support the successful delivery of Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects (and wider utility-scale renewables).

The Role

This is a hands-on commercial role combining a Quantity Surveying / cost management foundation with strong contract administration and claims management capability. You’ll support projects from tender through delivery and close-out, ensuring robust commercial governance, tight cost control, and effective risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

* Build and manage project cost estimates, budgets, cash flow forecasts and commercial reporting

* Produce scope documents and commercial appendices for tender packs

* Support tender evaluations, risk assessments, and pre-contract reviews

* Administer and manage contracts with OEMs / technology suppliers and contractors

* Track milestones and ensure suppliers/contractors deliver in line with contractual obligations

* Conduct site visits to validate progress and review payment applications

* Lead on change control: variations, early warnings, compensation events, EoT claims, LD logs

* Monitor spend vs budget and support final account settlements

What We’re Looking For

* 5–7+ years in a Quantity Surveying / Commercial role within construction / infrastructure

* Strong contracts experience – confident managing and negotiating live project issues

* Working knowledge of NEC / FIDIC / MF1 contract forms (one or more is fine, but must be strong)

* Experience in BESS/battery storage is ideal, but open to utility-scale renewables (solar, wind, grid/infrastructure)

* Proactive, organised, commercially sharp, confident dealing with stakeholders and contractors

Desirable

* Degree in QS / Construction Management / Engineering (or similar)

* RICS / CIOB membership

* Understanding of grid connection interfaces, HV scopes, and construction timelines for BESS

* Appreciation of ESG / carbon considerations in infrastructure delivery

Why This Role

* Work on high-profile energy transition projects with an investor-backed platform

* Broad scope across pre- and post-contract commercial management

* London base with sensible site exposure (occasional travel only)
