About the Role
A welcoming school in WD6 is seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker / Maintenance Assistant to join their site team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous school caretaking or maintenance experience who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented learning environment.
Working closely with the Site Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the school premises, ensuring the site remains safe, secure, and fully operational for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out daily opening and closing of the school site where required
* Complete routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks
* Undertake regular health and safety checks across the premises
* Ensure classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and outdoor areas are safe and well-maintained
* Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff
* Set up rooms and equipment for school events and activities
* Monitor site security and report any faults or hazards
* Support contractors on site and maintain compliance records
* Assist with general cleaning duties when required
* Maintain high standards of health and safety across the school
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Previous experience working as a School Caretaker or School Maintenance Assistant
* Good practical DIY and maintenance skills
* Knowledge of health and safety procedures
* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
* Reliable, organised, and proactive approach
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
* Right to Work in the UK
Desirable:
* Experience working within a primary, secondary, or SEN school
* Knowledge of COSHH and premises compliance
* Basic plumbing, decorating, or electrical maintenance experience
* First Aid qualification
