Caretaker with Transport Support (Temp to Perm)

Monday to Friday | Hours 8.30am to 4pm | Scale 4, 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education setting in Tottenham for a Caretaker with Transport Support to join their site team on a temporary-to-permanent basis.
This position will initially be offered as a full-time agency role for 60 working days. Following a successful interview, the role will become permanent, subject to standard checks.
This is a hands-on, varied role combining caretaking, site maintenance, and minibus driving, ideal for someone reliable, practical, and confident supporting transport operations.
The Role
You will support the safe, clean, and effective running of the site, carrying out general caretaking and maintenance duties alongside regular minibus driving.
Flexibility, strong organisational skills, and a proactive “can-do” attitude are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Caretaking, Grounds & Maintenance
* Day-to-day caretaking and site maintenance
* Planned and reactive maintenance tasks
* Maintaining clean, safe buildings and outdoor areas
* Basic repairs including painting, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance
* Replacing light bulbs, cleaning vents, and reporting hazards
* Preparing rooms and spaces for events and meetings
* Waste management and storage area upkeep
Transport & Minibus Support
* Drive a minibus to transport pupils, staff, equipment, and supplies
* Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and basic maintenance
* Ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and compliant
* Safely assist passengers, including wheelchair users and tail-lift operation
* Ensure seatbelts and safety equipment are correctly used
* Complete transport documentation and incident reports
* Follow procedures for breakdowns, accidents, and emergencies
* Carry out emergency cleaning where required
Health, Safety & Security
* Support health and safety checks and record keeping
* Act as a Fire Warden
* Support site security, including key holding
* Maintain confidentiality and promote safeguarding at all times
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Full UK driving licence and a willingness to learn how to drive the minibus
* Experience in caretaking, facilities, site support, or maintenance work
* Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills
* Ability to prioritise tasks and work flexibly
* Good communication and people skills
* Commitment to safeguarding and health & safety
Desirable
* D1 driving licence
* Experience driving a minibus
* Health & Safety qualifications
* Experience working in education or with children/adults with disabilities
