Hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 6:30am–10:30am, with the possibility of extending to lunchtime

We are currently recruiting for a Caretaker to provide temporary cover at a school in Burton-on-Trent for approximately 7 weeks.

The role will involve opening the school site each morning and supporting with the general day-to-day running, safety and maintenance of the premises.

The Role

Duties are likely to include:

Opening and securing the school premises

Carrying out routine site and security checks

Ensuring the school site is safe, secure and well maintained

General caretaking and basic maintenance duties

Reporting any maintenance, health and safety or security issues

Moving equipment and furniture where required

Supporting contractors, visitors and school staff

General upkeep of the school premises

Assisting with any other reasonable site duties

The role is expected to run from 2nd November to 18th December, Monday to Friday.

The school is currently looking at the exact hours required, but the initial requirement is expected to be around 6:30am to 10:30am, with the possibility of extending through to lunchtime depending on the school's requirements and agreed rates.

Previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance or site experience would be advantageous. Reliability is essential, particularly due to the early start time.

Requirements & Vetting

As this is a school-based position, all candidates will be required to complete the necessary recruitment and safeguarding checks, including:

Minimum of 2 employer references covering the previous 24 months

If you have not worked with children previously, 3 references will be required

Any employment gaps will require a professional character reference

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service preferred; otherwise, you must be willing to obtain a new Enhanced DBS

Right to Work documentation

2 proofs of address – e.g. utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months, or council tax dated within the last 12 months

Proof of National Insurance number

Proof of any name changes, where applicable

Overseas police check if you have lived outside the UK for more than 6 months

Completion of our online mandatory training courses, which are provided free of charge
