About the Role
We are recruiting a dedicated and experienced Care Home Chef to join a welcoming 30-bed residential care home in the beautiful Churston area of Brixham.
The home is situated in beautiful surroundings on a golf course, providing a peaceful and attractive environment for residents and staff.
As a Care Home Chef, you will play a vital role in preparing nutritious, appetising and well-presented meals for residents, while ensuring all dietary, nutritional and food safety requirements are met.
Working 40 hours per week across 4 days, with shifts from 8am–6pm, you will be responsible for planning and preparing meals, catering for individual dietary requirements and maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety.
A good understanding and practical knowledge of IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) is essential, along with a strong understanding of SFBB (Safer Food, Better Business) procedures.
You will become an important part of a dedicated team, helping to ensure residents receive high-quality meals that support their health, wellbeing and enjoyment.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook nutritious, varied and appetising meals for residents
Plan and prepare meals in line with residents' dietary requirements and preferences
Cater for special diets, allergies and food intolerances
Have a strong understanding and practical knowledge of IDDSI and modified-texture diets
Ensure meals are prepared and presented in accordance with residents' individual needs
Follow SFBB procedures and maintain accurate food safety records
Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety
Ensure food is stored, prepared and handled safely at all times
Monitor food temperatures and maintain appropriate records
Maintain stock levels and assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies
Minimise food waste while maintaining appropriate food quality and portion control
Work closely with care staff to understand residents' dietary needs
Ensure kitchen areas, equipment and utensils are kept clean and hygienic
Follow all relevant food safety, health and safety and infection control procedures
Report any concerns regarding food, equipment, stock or residents' dietary requirements
Work collaboratively with colleagues and the wider care team
Treat residents, visitors and colleagues with courtesy and respect
Candidate Requirements
Previous experience working as a Chef, ideally within a care home, healthcare or similar setting
Good knowledge and understanding of IDDSI is essential
Good knowledge and understanding of SFBB is essential
Strong understanding of food hygiene and food safety requirements
Experience catering for special dietary requirements is highly desirable
Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents
Good organisational and time-management skills
Reliable, hardworking and committed approach to work
Good attention to detail
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to work independently when required
A friendly, caring and respectful nature
Genuine desire to contribute to residents' health, wellbeing and quality of life
