Overview
We’re recruiting an Estates & Facilities Officer to support the safe, secure and smooth day-to-day operation of a busy college education environment. This is a hands-on role combining site security, caretaking, porterage, routine maintenance and contractor supervision, with a strong focus on health & safety and safeguarding.
This role is ideal for someone with building maintenance experience who enjoys variety, is proactive, and can work confidently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide a security, caretaking, estates and facilities service to staff, students and visitors
*
Undertake routine security patrols and contribute to building/site security
*
Act as designated key holder, including locking/unlocking, call-outs and recording activity
*
Operate and monitor heating systems, fire alarms and security alarms as required
*
Complete porterage duties and support goods inwards (receipt, logging and delivery)
*
Drive site vehicles/minibus fleet as required to transport goods, staff and visitors (exceptionally students)
*
Carry out routine planned checks within competence (e.g., water testing, emergency lighting tests)
*
Perform minor repairs and improvements (e.g., painting, tiling, general fabric/fittings upkeep)
*
Maintain clean and safe external areas (frontages, entrances/exits, pedestrianised areas)
*
Liaise with police, fire and ambulance services where required
*
Provide first aid when needed (must hold/maintain a valid certificate)
Essential Requirements:
*
Experience in building maintenance/repair work
*
Basic Health & Safety qualification and understanding of H&S legislation
*
Full clean driving licence
*
Organised, proactive, able to work with minimal supervision
*
Commitment to safeguarding (role requires satisfactory DBS clearance)
*
First Aid Certificate (current and relevant) and willingness to administer first aid when required
Desirable (Nice to Have):
*
Experience working in a college/education environment
*
Manual handling / lifting training
*
Ability to operate electrical/mechanical building services systems
*
Experience prioritising tasks, supporting others, and supervising contractors/cleaners
