As a specialist Refrigeration Design Engineer in the multi disciplined R&D team of an Essex-based R&D/manufacturing entity of a 5000 employee global manufacturing business, you will design and develop ultra low temperature refrigeration systems following the Agile methodology of product development. The refrigeration / cryogenic systems you design are a key element of machines used worldwide by the scientific, healthcare and research sectors.

The Refrigeration Design Engineer will have a solid technical background in thermodynamics and heat transfer, and a proven track record of product / technologies development as a Design Engineer using thermodynamics and heat transfer and this will be used in a role encompassing:

* The use of specific numeric calculation methods to assure design performance whilst minimising investment on prototypes.

* Creating and reviewing of refrigeration systems and components, ensuring the specifications are feasible to source by connecting with suppliers and manufacturing operations.

* Providing specific documentation related to product design to meet regulatory compliance, ISO 9001, 13485 and organisation requirements.

* Advocate on refrigeration testing by ensuring product and testing quality level is appropriate and guiding Test Engineers on testing planning and execution.

* Analyse testing results, identify product improvement opportunities and drive implementation of changes.

* Feed the refrigeration technology roadmap pipeline by targeting new and feasible technologies.

* Assist on quality complaints from the field by providing technical support in order to identify root cause, short and long term alternatives and potential product risks.

* Provide support on manufacturing processes and methods to meet Quality and Safety standards of the product.

Degree or equivalent qualified, and perhaps with additional qualification in Heat and Mass Transfer or similar, you should have worked in formalised phase-gate product development processes, using design tools such as DFM, FMEA and ISO 9001 design controls.

The Refrigeration Design Engineer will be experienced in the mathematical modelling of technical problems in the field of refrigeration and heat transfer. Useful experience/knowledge would include some of: Refprop, Flownex, Solidworks, Agile Project Methodology within a regulated industry, FGas and Htdrocarbon conversion.

An exciting opportunity for an Engineer to drive forward on new ideas, combining their ability to think and plan strategically but with a hands on approach. Your links with research centres, academia and other external partners will be of great benefit, as will be your highly collaborative, team orientated approach to working cross functionally across various departments. Excellent communication skills, positivity and enthusiasm a must
