Estimating Manager - Steelwork

Based in in South Yorkshire, our client is a leading supplier of Architectural and bespoke steelwork. They specialize in the fabrication and supply of staircases, handrails, access steelwork and complex bespoke designs such as spirals and helix forms and also the more conventional secondary structural steelwork.

They now seek an experienced Estimating Manager to manage and further develop the existing team.

Estimating Manager:

The following is an outline of the main roles and responsibilities of the above job title, it is not intended to be an exhaustive list, just to list the main relevant points:

1. Responsible for the departments' monthly, quarterly and Annual targets, set at the start of each financial Year; reporting thereon in monthly sales meetings

2. Directing employees work in the department to ensure efficient working within the department

3. To ensure that Tender requirements / submission dates are met

4. To ensure that the department operates in a proactive manner, seeking feedback on all submitted tenders to maximise the potential of successfully gaining tenders

5. To prioritise and distribute workload effectively to minimise backlogs

6. To ensure adequate holiday cover for the department via the management of Annual Leave

7. To ensure all estimators are aware of their own roles and responsibilities and expectations within the department; making them aware of surpluses / deficits on targets

8. Responsible for dealing with, or the delegation of, queries from clients when received either by telephone, email or letter.

9. Management of all operational aspects of the department and staff

10. To ensure that the departments' policies and procedures are adhered to

11. To ensure that all administrative aspects of the department is maintained to a high quality; e.g. - all live tenders have full and complete files and when a job is won, it is properly complete and handed over to Contracts Managers.

12. To possess an awareness of Competitor movements in the market place

13. To work closely with the Business Development Manager and keep him informed of all operational aspects of the department and keep him informed of all movements and updates on current live tenders.

14. To inform the Managing Director and Business Development Manager of any issues with external clients; e.g. consistent failures to gain work with particular clients

15. To report to the Managing Director and Business Development Manager on tenders lost, to include reason/s from the client
