Cost Planner

A tier 1 contractor are looking for a Cost Planner to join their committed team

The cost planning team are held in high regard and the role is key to the successful value management of potential public sector construction projects

The role

You will be office based 2-3 days a week with client meetings

You will be involved in 2 schemes at a time

The scope of the role will focus on developing cost plans, cost management, negotiating with consultants, suppliers and subcontractors ensuring bid budgets are robustly formulated and achieved, facilitating value engineering works shops and informing design teams on affordability

Working within the commercial department with specific cost planning expertise you will make a real contribution tot he success of the group and profitability from the start

The department are involved in national procurement framework with primary responsibilities of facilitating bids, administering framework protocols and bidding for new framework opportunities. They are currently actively involved in the following sectors: education, health, justice, defence and general public sector

The main duties and responsibilities of the role are:

·Provide commercial and contractual advice to the Operating Division

·Negotiate competitive design consultant fee levels and payments terms on SFA projects

·Contribute to the Cost Database & Cost Library

·Maintain the Education & health Data base ensuring they are updated regularly

·Provide advice on scheme affordability to Operating Division

·Carry out project cost planning

·Liaise with FF+E Department to advise FF+E budget & to achieve optimum FF+E provision

·Liaise with Life Cycle Cost consultant to ensure timely & competitive LCC analysis

·Ensure records are maintained and in an appropriate format

·Apply value management on all SFA led projects

·Add to knowledge of build costs and share with SFA commercial team

·Be familiar with the cost of current and innovative construction techniques and materials

·Seek to improve quality of response for all SFA bids and pre-qualifications

·Ensure compliance with the company’s Standing Orders

·Provide support to the company’s staff on all aspects of Framework commercial/contractual matters

·Commercial preparation for bids. Implement commercial bid strategy

·Develop, implement and monitor commercial aspects of bid strategy with Operating Division

·Effectively hand over successful tenders/cost plans monitoring up to financial close

·Demonstrate good presentation skills

·Collect and disseminate commercial best practice within the frameworks

·Identifying commercial/contractual non conformances

·Support and seek to improve the bid winning strategy for individual projects

·Assist in commercial support for newly secured SFA Frameworks

The right person Cost Planner

You will be a committed individual and innovative individual with Cost Planning and / or Quantity Surveying / Estimating experience with a strong knowledge of construction methodology

You will have a minimum of 5 years experience in a role that involves cost planning

If you are from an Estimating background you will be experienced in measuring from drawings

If you are from a Quantity Surveying background you will be able to take off from drawings
